McCormick County Centennial: Art Appreciation Day at the MACK
Saturday / March 19, 2016 / 10:00 – 2:00
Please plan to stop by the MACK as we celebrate the achievements of the arts in McCormick County.  The Youth Art Month exhibition will be on display featuring the student artwork of our community’ s middle and high school students.  We greatly appreciate the growing recognition of the impact the arts, culture and history have for the success of our unique community.  We commit to continuing to bring value to our home and destination for visitors.  Through the efforts of our organization, and our cultural partners, we add to our quality of life, enrich education, preserve cultural heritage and continue to build opportunities for commerce and positive impact. Thank you for being proud of a very creative, artistically enhanced and talented community.

Read & Feed:  Subject – “Orphan’s Train”
Thursday / March. 31, 2016 / 6:00 / $15
Over dinner, participants will be discussing “orphan trains”, a movement that began in the United States in the 1850’s and continued into the 1920’s.  Nearly a quarter million children from East coast cities were transported to the Midwest where families selected them, often to help as servants or farm laborers.  Most of the children were living in orphanages, or on the streets, or simply abandoned.
The basis for our discussion is a book called Orphan Train written by Christina Baker Kline.  But there are many other books written on this topic, available at the Library or at the MACK.  Any books written on the topic will give you the basic background for the Read and Feed discussion. Read and Feed begins at 6pm with drinks and appetizers.  Dinner and discussion will follow.  The cost is $15. For more information, contact Janice at the MACK.
