Betty is a retired music teacher who moved from Michigan to McCormick in 2005. She first became involved in art when I took a drawing class at the MACK from Clint Scott. With his encouragement, I moved to watercolor and have never looked back. She enjoys painting from photos of nature, as well as the challenge of watercolor portraits, mostly of family. Betty has also taken classes from Bill Updegraff, Linda Macaluso Lawrence, Wes Waugh, and Jaime Cordero. Her title for this exhibition is “This is My Father’s World”, in “gratitude to God for the fascinating world He has given us.”
“Many thanks to Marge Gehrhardt, my framer, who always makes me look good.”
Martha Peddicord, a Kentucky native, has been working in clay for 10 years. She creates her work from the studio in the stable behind her house in Ninety Six, SC. Martha trained at the Piedmont Technical College clay facility in Edgefield, S.C. Upon graduation, she has continued training with leading pottery instructors around the U.S.
“This continuing study has allowed me to  further develop and refine my process and ideas. There is always an excitement around creating the next new design and also a bit of stress, clay can be a demanding Mistress.”

“I grew up in a family of people who made things and grew things. With clay, I have the blend of an idea, the action and the tangible results that is very satisfying to me. Functional work keeps me rooted. Stretching those boundaries of usefulness allows me to follow my artistic inspiration.  Being the child of two gardeners, many of my pieces reflect that influence. I am growing my Mother’s flowers on my pots.”
